Online Education Offers Opportunities
One of the great things about Georgia Virtual School and online education in general is that it offers many opportunities for students. I have taught students online that are taking courses for a variety of reasons. The student who is on hospital homebound and wants to graduate with her class. The student who wants to challenge himself with an AP course only to learn his local school does not offer it. Another student who is trying to learn enough to pass a standardized test to advance in her educational career. In all of these cases the flexibility and availability of online education was there to help. I think as time goes on many people: students, parents, teachers, and school administrators will begin to realize all of the opportunities that the world of online education can offer.

I love the options Georgia Virtual provides students in unusual cases. For example, a Georgia student is working as a professional model this semester. By taking all of her courses from Georgia Virtual, she can stay on track to graduate and can return seemlessly to her home high school next fall. Another student was recently suspended from her high school for the remainder of the school year. However, the school agreed to let her transfer into Georgia Virtual classes and work from home, so her education would not suffer. We even have a member of the National Junior water ski team taking courses from Georgia Virtual. The team schedule was causing him to miss too many days of school to meet his local school's attendance policy. He now works from anywhere in the world between training and competitions.
ReplyDeleteOnline education also can allow very gifted students to get ahead in subject areas. This will allow them to either do dual enrollment their senior year or allow them to take more AP Courses. Most of the colleges first course or two are online. So, online education in High school really prepares you for college.
